Album review: Friday Hill - Times Like These
Release date
Monday 27 February 2006
Style
James, Mus and Kenzie have tried hard to invent their own image and sound on this album. There is a deliberate slow theme in Times Like These.
Let's hope that Friday Hill aren't really as love-sick as they seem throughout this album. There are plenty of soft melodies and guitars.
There are a few darker songs on the album in the shape of Running Away and Fine. They make a change to the loved-up tracks.
How many good tracks?
Of the 15 on the album, there are five or six good tracks. The remaining 10 tracks sound the same as each other.
Top tracks
I Won't Walk Away and Back To You are good songs. Which makes you wonder why the boys decided to release One More Night Alone and Baby Goodbye first.
Times Like These and Running Away see Kenzie and Mus in a rare chance to shine. However there is no way enough variation in sound.
One More Night went into the chart at 13 and Baby Goodbye went in at 10.
Don't expect any future releases from this album to do much better.
Weakest track
There are a few to chose from. Where It All Begins is a massive disappointment.
Hit or miss
This is a hit¿ just.
For a debut album the boys have done well. Friday Hill could well get a fan base totally different to when they were in the Blazin' Squad days.
It's unlikely that they will shift loads of albums however.
NR rating: 3 out of 5 stars
its cheeky that review lets all try and use the form at the side of the page and send in that we think its great news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_4770000/newsid_4771200/4771206.stm
